Soils of Norway

Six factors influence soil formation: terrain, parent materials, time, vegetation, biological activity, and climate. Because these factors vary in intensity and importance from place to place, Norway’s soils also are varied. Most are classified as “mountain soils,” characterized by infertility. Because of its climate and soils only a few small areas of Norway support crop production.
